Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has tipped Kenya tonreach the semis of 2018 Awcon finals in Ghana.

Starlets landed in a tough Group B that has ten-time African champions, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia. Kenya won the rights to take part in the tournament after Equatorial Guinea were disqualified by Caf for fielding an ineligible player.

But despite posting a poor show in the last edition, staged in Cameroon, where Starlets were bundled out in the preliminary stages, Mwendwa is still optimistic that the David Ouma led charges, will be going to Ghana to make amend of their past mistakes.

“While I don't want to be over-ambitious, it is possible that we'll be in the semi-final. We just need four points to get to the semis. It is possible. We have done it against Ghana, we can still do it," Mwendwa said on Tuesday.

Mwendwa said this even as questions arose whether the team is up for the big task ahead after the country’s participation in the tourney was confirmed barely three weeks to the start of the competition on November 17.

"Even though the women's league stopped for some time, the display of the national team saw a good number of players sign with professional teams abroad and we will be banking on their experience during the championship."

Starlets are set to hit camp on October 29 and have been lined to play two friendly matches against Uganda and Ghana.
