Despite earlier reports stating that Vietnam captain Nguyễn Văn Quyết will join Kedah on loan for the 2018 season, his club Hà Nội FC has issued a statement saying that the move will not transpire after all.

In a social media post issued on Monday, Hà Nội stated that the 26-year old midfielder, who has two years remaining in his contract, will stay at the club in 2018.

The club were earlier reported to be close to letting him join Malaysia Super League club Kedah on loan, although the Vietnamese side preferred if he were to join Thailand's Muang Thong United instead.

The Vietnam star's u-turn means that the Red Eagles still have one foreign slot left to fill, before the season kicks off in early February.

They have retained Brazilian attacker Sandro da Silva and Kosovar midfielder Liridon Krasniqi this season, while signing Spanish-born Filipino defender Álvaro Silva and former Almeria forward Pablo Pallarès.
