Kariobangi Sharks ace Jeff Oyemba surprised many by clinching the 2017 goalkeeper of the year award as voted by journalists.

Posta Rangers man Patrick Matasi was regarded as the favorite, but the Sharks man ended up carrying the day, with the mailman coming second. The custodian says the win is a motivation for him, and at the same time a challenge to improve his game.

“Well, I did not expect to win this when the season started, but I am really happy with the fact that I have it. Yes, it is a motivation to me, it shows that I can do better, but, it keeps me on toes. To remain at the top there are no two ways about it, I have to work harder.

“My teammates have played a vital role in helping me win this, same with my goalkeeping coach and the entire technical bench, I haven't won it alone,” Oyemba told Goal .

Kariobangi Sharks finished third in its debut season behind winners Gor Mahia and second placed Sofapaka.
