Federation Cup exit will be good news for Enyimba’s Caf Confederation Cup title dreams, according to head coach Usman Abdullah, who believes they will be ready for Raja Casablanca.
The People’s Elephants were eliminated by Kano Pillars from the national championship expected to produce the nation’s sole representative for next year’s Caf Confederation Cup.
Goals from Rabiu Ali, Chris Madaki, Ifeanyi Nweke and Nwagua Nyima helped the Sai Masu Gida come from a goal down to win despite Chukwudi Stephen and Adetunji Sunday rallied late.
Though disappointed, the gaffer believes their Federation Cup elimination will give them enough time to be ready for their second leg clash with the Moroccans in Casablanca.
“I think that it was unfortunate we lost to Enyimba and crashed out of the competition,” Abdullah told media.
“It was really unfortunate but we are not going to give excuses because it is football as it either we win or lose. We learned our lesson and it could be a blessing in disguise for us.
“We will now get enough time to prepare for Raja Casablanca match. I have seen the faults of my team and it is perfect now that I find time to change the tactics for my team.
“We have two weeks to prepare for the match against Raja and also put in shape some of our players that are injured. For the meantime, we need to go back home and rest before starting our preparation for the Raja game.”
