Kaizer Chiefs target Anthony Laffor set to depart Mamelodi Sundowns

According to reports, Mamelodi Sundowns are set to watch star Anthony Laffor depart once his contract expires at the end of the month.

The Liberia international has been at Chloorkop since 2012, joining Sundowns from rivals SuperSport United. During that time Laffor has gone on to win several trophies including a Caf Champions League and a Caf Super Cup, and in most recent times was part of Sundowns’ 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) winning team.

However, despite this season’s success, Laffor has been only a bit part player in coach Pitso Mosimane’s plans. The 33-year-old made just 11 appearances all season coming off the bench ten times in the league. This has led Mosimane to previously admit that he was unsure of the veteran’s future at the club, opening the door for a move away.

Nonetheless, Laffor has reportedly been on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs in recent times and with Mosimane looking to rebuild his squad, it seems that the winger will not be returning to Tshwane ahead of the new season.

“He will not be returning to the club,” a source told Power FM.

“Laffor is a good player, but don’t you wonder why he is not playing? One day he is injured, the other he is sick. You never know what you are going to get with him,” the source added.

With Laffor set to be a free agent in the coming months, this now opens the door for Amakhosi to swoop in, but it now remains to be seen whether or not the Soweto giants who are currently without a permanent coach will make a move for the Liberian.

Meanwhile, with Laffor set to depart, the broadcasting station further report that the club have already lined up a move for Bolivian Leonel Justiniano. Mosimane has certainly looked at bringing a South American flavour to Sundowns of recent seasons, having in the past brought on board Brazilian Ricardo Nascimento and Uruguayan playmaker Gaston Sirino.
