Maritzburg United chairman Farouk Kadodia has revealed that Orlando Pirates did approach his club for the services of Evans Rusike.

This is after Kadodia denied reports stating that the club had agreed to sell the player to Pirates and also insisted that the Soweto giants had not submitted a bid for the player.

The Team of Choice then moved swiftly to trigger the two-year option on the Zimbabwe international's contract and Kadodia has since disclosed that Bucs did approach his club.

"Pirates is the only team that came to me to put pressure on me for Rusike," Kadodia told the media.

"I said no because you must understand that if I sold any of the key players here, for the fans that stood behind the club to survive last year it would've been an insult to them," he added.

"So I explained to Orlando Pirates: 'what would you do if you were in my position?'" Kadodia asked.

Rusike remains an intergral part of the Pietermaritzburg side, who are currently competing for a top eight finish in the PSL.

The striker has missed only two of eighth-placed Maritzburg's 22 league matches this season.
