Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret, 54, has admitted that the thought of entering a relegation fight is not far from their minds as a team.

The Buccaneers, who are winless in 12 PSL matches, are currently placed 11th on the league table - just two points above the relegation play-off position.

Bottom-placed Baroka FC are five points behind Pirates, but the Soweto giants have a game in hand.

"Well, most of the times - teams that find themselves in our position do not take relegation seriously," Jonevret said.

"They think it is too early and that they are too far from the relegation zone. That is not our mentality. We are taking no chances," he continued.

"We know that we might find ourselves in the relegation zone if we do not start winning matches," Jonevret added.

"We can see the log standings and this is something that we are taking very seriously. We need to win a few matches and move further away from our current position," he stressed.

Since Swedish tactician's appointment as Pirates head coach on 20 February 2017, the team has played four PSL matches - drawing three and losing one against Free State Stars last weekend.

"I have not had time to sit and watch other PSL teams play. However, I have faced four teams so far and SuperSport United are the team that has impressed me," Jonevret indicated.

"They were compact and sharper than Kaizer Chiefs. So, they are the best team I have faced thus far," the 2005 Swedish Coach of the Year concluded.

Jonevret did mastermind the Buccaneers' 3-1 win over ABC Motsepe side EC Bees in the Nedbank Cup last 32 game in Mdatshane three weeks ago.

Bucs will now take on Stars in the last 16 clash in Orkney on Saturday as they look to avenge their recent league defeat to Ea Lla Koto.
