Gabriel Jesus has been forced off with an injury in the first half of Manchester City's clash at Bournemouth, giving Sergio Aguero the chance to return to Pep Guardiola's team.

The Brazilian appeared to twist his ankle by landing awkwardly after contesting a cross into the Bournemouth penalty area.

Jesus was subsequently replaced by Aguero, who has lost his place in the starting XI to the new signing, before the 15-minute mark had passed at the Vitality Stadium.

While the severity of Jesus' injury will be determined after the game, it is a blow for a player who had made an instant impact at the Etihad Stadium.

One of the stars of Palmeiras' journey to the 2016 Brazilian Serie A title, the teenager also helped Brazil to their first ever Olympic title on home soil.

His move to the Premier League was announced last summer, but only confirmed on January 19, with Jesus making his Premier League debut two days later off the bench against Tottenham.

The striker's scored in three goals in four Premier League appearances and has been preferred to Aguero in recent weeks by Guardiola.

The future of Aguero, who has 18 goals this season and lies third in City's all-time scoring charts with 154, has become a hot topic once again since Jesus' arrival.

"I would like him to remain but I don't know what is going to happen," Guardiola said of the Argentine before the match.

"Even in my career I would not know what would happen at the end of the season, so I do not know.

"My advice for all the players is, ' keep going, guys'. Keep going, fight and show me again how good you are."
