The former South Africa international has backed the astute coach for the Amakhosi coaching job ahead of the 2018/19 season

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Jabu Mahlangu has urged his former club to appoint Free State Stars gaffer Luc Eymael as their new head coach.

The Belgian tactician, who has been linked with Soweto giants since February 2018, confirmed that he had received an offer from Amakhosi when speaking to Goal on Monday

The Chiefs coaching seat became vacant after Steve Komphela resigned towards the end of the 2017/18 season with the South African tactician having failed to win a major trophy with the club.

Mahlangu, who played for Chiefs first team between 1999 and 2004, believes that with Eymael having been in the country for over two years, he would be the best candidate.

“He has been here for a while now and should know some of the players in the team and those he would want to bring on board,” Mahlangu told The Citizen.

The retired midfielder stated that the former Polokwane City and Bloemfontein Celtic coach will not need a lot of time to adapt and get to know the club and its players.

“Chiefs have been recently accused of signing average players who fail to carry the team when needed. It is partly true because some of them are just not the quality you would expect at such a big team, but there are a few who can be big players with the right kind of coaching,” he said.

Amakhosi are known be looking to appoint a foreign trainer as their next head coach and they have been linked with several high-profile tacticians.

The Soweto giants are said to have targeted former Chelsea FC manager Avram Grant and French mentor Patrice Carteron, who recently joined Egyptian Al Ahly.

“They will obviously need time to get the feel of things but he will also have to be able to adapt quickly. So, it has to be someone with experience. I don’t think the fans will take not winning a trophy for any longer than they have already waited,” he concluded.
