Ismaily back in Caf Champions League after successful appeal

Caf have admitted Ismaily back into the Caf Champions League following a sucessful appeal by the Egyptian club.

Ismaily had been disqualified from the tournament after their fans caused the abandonment of their Champions League clash against Tunisian rivals Club African at home.

The Egyptian side was trailing 2-1 when the match was called off with four minutes remaining as fans relentlessly threw missiles onto the pitch.

After lodging an appeal against being booted out of the tournament as punishment, Caf have reversed its decision on Ismaily.

In overturning Ismaily’s expulsion, the Caf Appeals Board noted that there was no pitch invasion or aggression against the visiting team which warrants elimination from the tournament as spelt by Chapter XII, article 3 of the Champions League regulations.

“…the Appeal Board decided as follows: The appeal of the Ismaily Sporting Club is admissible; the appeal of the Ismaily Sporting Club is upheld; Ismaily Sporting Club is reintegrated into the Total Caf Champions League CL 2018/2019,” read the Appeals Board decision.

Having lost 2-0 to AS Vita in their group opener, Ismaily missed Matchday three where they were scheduled to host Algerian champions CS Constantine.

Caf are yet to announce if Ismaily will travel to face Constantine on Tuesday.
