India U20 defender Anwar Ali has signed for Indian Super League (ISL) side Mumbai City FC from Minerva Punjab

The Punjab-born defender had been playing for Indian Arrows on loan from Minerva Punjab in the previous season of the I-League but has now opted to make his move to the bigger leagues.

Anwar was also part of the Indian team which took part in the U17 World Cup held in India last October and was a regular fixture in central defence.

He was extremely impressive in that campaign, earning rave reviews. The youngster has gone on to build on that by consistently impressing in the junior circuit and I-League games. Lately, he scored the winning goal in India U20's 2-1 win over Argentina U20 with a sumptuous freekick.

The 17-year-old is one of the best junior players in the country right now and Mumbai City have secured his signature on a long-term deal.

He joins them on a three-year-deal and will now look to make the step up to ISL and continue his development.
