Mumbai will be facing Delhi for the second time this season on Monday. The Islanders had emerged victorious on matchday four of the Indian Super League (ISL) but Mumbai coach Jorge Costa believes that the previous result will have no bearing on Monday’s game.
“We won the first game 2-0 but that game is over now. If you don't watch Delhi play and you look at their position, you can be disappointed. But if you watch them play, you'll know that they are playing well," said Costa.
The Portuguese is wary of his opponents despite their poor run of results and believes that the hosts are much better than what the league table portrays.
"In the last game against Bengaluru, they created a lot of chances and looked very organised. They deserved to be up by two or three goals by half-time. So, we need to respect them and be focused on tomorrow's game."
The 47-year-old is of the opinion that Delhi are playing good football and creating lots of chances but missing out on that final touch.
"They are playing good and creating chances which is much harder than finishing. I'm sure that one day they will start scoring and make it very hard for the opposition but I"m hoping that day isn't tomorrow. But they deserve to score the goals, they play so well and create a lot of chances."
The hosts had thumped Mumbai 5-1 in the same fixture last season but Costa deems it irrelevant.
"Things change a lot every year, so you can't compare results from last year to this year," he quipped.
They Dynamos are currently rooted at the bottom of the league table with no wins in nine games but Costa believes Delhi can still fight for a spot in the top four.
"I don't believe that Delhi is out of the top four. They still have nine games remaining and can get a lot of points. With the quality they have, they can fight for the top four. I like to speak about only my team but I don't want to count any team out," Costa remarked.
The Portuguese was disappointed when his team had to share spoils with ATK and wants his team to get back to winning ways.
"The game against ATK was very frustrating. Before every game I talk about wanting to win that game but we need to accept that we can't win every game. The game against ATK was not very good but I'm happy with my players who are working very hard. In the end we had to adjust with just one point and dropped two."
