Jamshedpur FC head coach Cesar Ferrando wants his side to get their Indian Super League (ISL) campaign back on track when they host defending champions Chennaiyin FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Sunday.
Ferrando’s men made an excellent start to the season before going into the most recent international break unbeaten. However, Jamshedpur were dealt a maiden defeat right after when they went down 1-2 to FC Pune City.
Speaking on the eve of the clash, the Spanish coach stated, “We are going to play against a good side in Chennaiyin. They won the title last season. We lost the last match. We want a win at home in front of our fans.”
The hosts have been dealt a big blow heading into the clash with their star Spanish signing and top-scorer Sergio Cidoncha who has sustained an ACL injury which is set to keep him out for a prolonged spell.
“Sergio is injured. We have lost him until January. He has suffered an ACL injury. Big blow for us,” explained Ferrando.
“We have (Michael) Soosairaj, (Pablo) Morgado, (Carlos) Calvo who can play in his position. To me, the team is important. Sergio was definitely playing well but he is not here now. We have to continue playing and play well,” he added.
Ferrando revealed he would have preferred the continuity prior to going into the international break but admitted that it had been a welcome one for his players.
“The league is different. Some teams play too many matches in a short time and some teams play one match a week. The coach can only say if the gap was good for then. It was good for the team they got the rest. Good time for recovery. I personally want to play continuously so that there is continuity,” he said to conclude.
