ISL 2018-19: Cesar Ferrando defends Carlos Calvo’s dive: Journalists talk a lot

Jamshedpur FC coach Cesar Ferrando came to the defence of winger Carlos Calvo who went down several times despite not being tackled at all. There was an instance when Cyril Kali didn’t touch Calvo but the latter successfully conned the referee into believing that he was indeed fouled.

The former Cadiz player has been guilty of going down far too easily this season.

“In the last match, I heard some journalist complaining about Calvo. Journalists talk a lot but before they need to think about (what happened). Calvo went down and it was a foul,” said Ferrando.

Tim Cahill was adjudged to have been brought down inside the box by Dheeraj Moirangthem and the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors. Although questions were asked about the legitimacy of the penalty awarded, Ferrando opined that the goalkeeper should have been sent-off.

“I don't know if it is a penalty. Some player of Kerala tackled and for me, it was red card. If you have to analyze the penalty, then first you have to analyze the tackle,” he responded when asked about his thoughts on the penalty.

The Spaniard was happy that his team picked up a point as they were tired after the tedious travel from Jamshedpur to Kerala.

“I will take one point over here. It was a difficult match to play as my team was very tired during the final moments of the match. It is difficult  to play after a long travel. Kerala Blasters are a good team. I think they had three or four chances to score.  It was a match that was very balanced,” he mentioned.

“We wanted to play with three midfielders. I didn't like the first half. We needed more strength in midfield. Pratik (Chaudhari) played very well.  We lost a lot of balls in the first half,” he added.

Many Kerala Blasters fans stayed away from the game as a mark of protest given that the team hasn’t produced the best of results once again this season. Ferrando explained that fans have every right to share their thoughts but in order to show their support to the team, they have to turn up for the games.

“I think the supporters are right always. (As a fan) I always have to help my team. During the match, this is my team and it is like a family. When the match is finished, I can complain. At the end of the match, shout and yell. During the match, that is my team. If you don’t do this, you are helping the opponent.  I hope in the next match the supporters can help Kerala,” he elaborated.

Ferrando confirmed that Michael Soosairaj will not be available for selection for quite some time as he has picked up a hamstring injury.

“It is impossible for him to recover until January.”
