After picking up their first win of the Indian Super League (ISL) season, Jamshedpur FC coach Steve Coppell was in a confident mood ahead of their clash against FC Pune City on Sunday.
The Englishman was happy after his side picked up their first three points in their win against Delhi Dynamos in the last match but pointed out that Jamshedpur could have scored more than the one goal they did.
“Obviously, I am very pleased with the victory in Delhi. I think we deserved it, and were the marginally stronger team on the night. But I think we had scoring opportunities on the evening,” he said.
“We won the game 1-0, but would have liked to win it by a better margin. Very happy with the three points though,” he went on to add.
When asked about his opponents for Sunday, the former Kerala Blasters coach was full of praise for FC Pune City’s strike force which includes Emiliano Alfaro and Marcelinho.
“I think Pune is a top side, and it is fair to say that. They have arguably the two best strikers in the league. Both Marcelinho and Alfaro are excellent, and they make a powerful combination. It will be a tough game, and we are fully aware of that.
“We just hope it is a good game for everyone to watch, and is enjoyed by all,” the Jamshedpur tactician stated.
Coppell had complained about the state of the pitch back in their home-ground in Jamshedpur previously and he once again stated his desire to have better playing conditions.
“It is obviously not what Jamshedpur planned. The team wanted to have a beautiful surface. It appears that we have a few issues, based on the evidence from the first game. I know everyone has worked very hard to correct those issues for the second game. But, we won’t know how it will play until tomorrow afternoon. I hope it is a firm surface, and the players can run, dribble and pass the ball without being frightened,” he stated.
The Jamshedpur boss also revealed that defender Anas Edathodika remains out of action with his injury.
“Anas is injured. He is not with us at the moment, and is going for specialist physiotherapy. He has an adductor problem inside his leg, and as I said, he is not with us,” Coppell remarked.
Coppell had an update on Sameehg Doutie who had gone missing from the team hotel during their stay in Delhi and said that no action will be taken against the South African.
“There is no action. He had a few personal issues in Delhi, which he is resolving at the moment, and he will be joining up with us over the weekend,” he said.
