Bengaluru FC’s star goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has been handed a two-match ban along with a fine of INR three lakhs with immediate effect.

The India No.1 had been shown a straight red card after his off-the-ball incident with FC Goa’s Manuel Lanzarote in Bengaluru FC’s 4-3 loss at the Gaurs’ home-ground on November 30.

The decision to ban the former Stabaek FC custodian was conveyed by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee. Based on the match official’s report, the 25-year-old was found guilty of breaching AIFF Disciplinary Code Article 49 for misconduct against an opponent player.

“Mr. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Player (Jersey No. 1) of Bengaluru FC is fined Rs 3,00,000  and is suspended for  two matches of Bengaluru FC, from the date of this decision. The amount should be deposited to All India Football Federation within 10 days from the date of communication of this decision and until such payment, the match suspension to continue, over and above two-match suspension,” the AIFF Disciplinary Committee report stated.

This is the first time the player has been shown a straight red card in his entire club career. The ban means that Gurpreet will now miss Bengaluru’s upcoming away clashes against NorthEast United FC and FC Pune City.

Bengaluru FC's goalkeeping options seem to be running dry at the moment with Abhra Mondal injuring his hamstring recently. Mondal is expected to be out of action for four to five weeks at least.
