The two finalists from last season have struggled to get their season going with no wins in four matches…

The Indian Super League (ISL) season four started with much fanfare, with the opening tie witnessing a clash between the finalists from 2016 – Kerala Blasters and ATK.

Little did one expect the game to be anything but a boring draw. There were a few glimpses of skill from Hitesh Sharma and Bipin Singh but no final product.

If you thought probably this was due to nervousness or the fact that the players were still getting to know their team-mates, you couldn’t be more wrong.

ATK and Kerala have struggled to make an impression so far and are the only two ISL franchises who haven’t notched a win in four matches. Both have scored three and conceded seven and six goals respectively.

Just going by reputations, ATK and Kerala have two of the biggest names as their coaches in Teddy Sheringham and Rene Meulensteen. However, neither team has shown any attacking flair whatsoever.

It must also be noted that these two teams hail from the football-mad states of West Bengal and Kerala. Should these two teams continue to perform in the same vein, the interest and to an extent the television ratings would go down significantly.

Kerala next face NorthEast United, a team which has failed to find the back of the net in three of their four games, on Friday in Kochi. Meanwhile, ATK come up against a gritty Mumbai City FC, who have won both their home matches this season, on Sunday.

Can the two teams save their season?
