New boys Bengaluru FC are set to make their Indian Super League (ISL) debut on Sunday when they take on Mumbai City at the Sree Kanteerava stadium at home.
Bengaluru FC’s Spanish coach Albert Roca was feeling confident ahead of the momentous occasion for the Bengaluru outfit though he warned his men that they could not get carried away by the occasion.
“It’s the beginning of a new era in this club’s history but the boys know they can’t get carried away by the occasion. Mumbai City are a good side and we’ll have to be at our best if we are to take anything away from the clash,” the Spaniard said at the pre-match press conference on Saturday.
Roca was full of praise for his opposite counterpart Alexandre Guimaraes and was wary of the quality overseas players signed by the Mumbai outfit.
“Mumbai have a coach who did well with them last season and they’ve got good foreigners who can cause trouble on their day. But we’ll focus on our game and look forward to putting out a performance that will make our fans proud,” he remarked.
The former I-League club were handed a boost recently when India No.1 Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was cleared by the league to take the spot of injured custodian Lalthuammawia Ralte who has suffered an ankle injury.
Roca also provided an update on Dimas Delgado’s injury but it seems like the midfielder will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“It’s unfortunate that Dimas and Mawia (Ralte) picked up injuries but at the same time, I am happy that Gurpreet can fill the void in the goalkeeping position. He makes us secure and will play a crucial part tomorrow,” he said to conclude.
