India are all set to play a friendly match against the Chinese national team in Beijing in October. The match will be held during the FIFA international window from October 8-16th.
In the latest FIFA rankings, India are placed in the 97th position while China hold the 75th place. The teams have met 17 times in the past out of which China have won 12. Five matches ended in a draw.
The friendly match against China will be a great test for Stephen Constantine’s men ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2019 which starts in January next year. India will also face Asian giants Saudi Arabia and Syria in October and November.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) General Secretary Kushal Das said, “China and India are today being seen as the two fastest emerging football markets, globally. We are happy to have come to the conclusion of our month-long discussion with the Chinese FA and I thank our marketing partners FSDL for their involvement and cooperation.”
Coach Stephen Constantine opined, “With an eye on the preparation for the Asian Cup, as a coach, I couldn’t have asked for anything better than an opponent like China. I am sure the boys will make the best of the opportunity presented to us and look forward to testing ourselves ahead of the AFC competition.”
Indian team's last outing was at the Intercontinental Cup hosted by the AIFF in Mumbai. India faced off against the likes of Kenya, New Zealand and Chinese Taipei and ended the tournament as the champions.
