Edinson Cavani is showing himself to be an “exceptional player” after being reverted back to his favoured position at Paris Saint-Germain in the wake of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s exit, says David Trezeguet.

The Swede was a talismanic presence at Parc des Princes prior to his departure for Manchester United last summer, with his physicality and creativity used to lead the line.

Verratti's dream is to win in Paris

With there only room for one central striker, Cavani often found himself shifted to a wider attacking post.

He has remained a regular source of goals throughout his time at PSG, but his efforts this season have help to highlight how devastating he can be when used in a natural role.

The Uruguay international already has 34 goals to his name, with former France international Trezeguet among those to have been suitably impressed by his contribution.

“He is showing a lot of drive and enthusiasm and works hard to make himself available to his team-mates.

“He is also showing a lot of power. He's an exceptional player!"

Cavani’s most recent effort came in a 4-0 drubbing of Barcelona in the last-16 of the Champions League, with Trezeguet of the opinion that a remarkable showing in the French capital places PSG among the leading contenders to capture European football’s biggest prize.
