Hearts of Oak to settle remittance of late coach Addo

Hearts of Oak are prepared to pay outstanding salaries and bonuses of former coach Herbert Addo, who passed away on Friday, communication director Kwame Opare Addo has confirmed.

The 65-year-old led the Phobians to win the Ghana Premier League title in 2002, six years after his first topflight triumph with Ashanti Gold. He achieved a similar feat with Aduana Stars in 2010.

“The money Hearts owe Herbert Addo is just less than $9000,” Opare told Class FM.

“Don’t believe whatever you hear aside this amount. I will not sit on radio and speculate what is not the truth. We had a payment plan with him. You can call his former manager and he will also confirm it. Why will I sit on radio, a public place, and say I owe somebody $1, when I know in my mind that I owe $20?” he added.

However, former Aduana and Ebusua Dwarfs coach, J.E Sarpong, who was one of Addo's friends, claims the departed coach was owed more than the declared amount.

“Herbert Addo told me few months back that Hearts as well as Inter Allies owed him around $16, 300. He said that they paid a little amount and it was left with $14, 700,” Sarpong told Class FM in a subsequent interview.

“I remember he said his lawyers were ready to write to Hearts and Inter Allies to demand his remittances. He wanted money to cater for himself during that time,” he said.

"They did not pay and after he has died, they are now prepared to pay. Sometimes, I get peeved because of such bad treatment. When I react, some say I use abusive words. The facts are always the facts and not insults, why must clubs wait for a coach to die before paying his salaries?” he added.

Goal understand that Addo's funeral arrangements will be announced by his family in the coming days.
