GPL week 12 wrap: Logarusic-less Kotoko fall as Wafa, Aduana fly

Wafa and Aduana Stars were simply unstoppable on Sunday but Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko both dropped points on matchday 12 of the Ghana Premier League.

Caleb Amankwah and Gideon Waja were on target to hand leaders Wafa a 2-0 home victory over newly-promoted Bolga All Stars. The Academy Boys still hold a point lead at the top.

High on the chase are Aduana Stars who beat Tema Youth 3-0 at Dormaa. Noah Martey, Nathaniel Asamoah and Tanko Mohammed were the scorers.

Hearts of Oak dropped points in their home fixture with Elmina Sharks but the 1-1 draw was still able to lift the Phobians to third on the log. Winful Cobbinah's 63rd minute strike for Frank Nuttall's outfit leveled Joseph Mensah's opener four minutes earlier.

Asante Kotoko may have sacked Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic but his replacement was unable to end the club's winless run, which now stands at five games. Kwaku Baffoe Asuandzie's goal for Wa All Stars condemned the Porcupine Warriors to a 1-0 away defeat. Though tied with Hearts on 19 point, the Kumasi-based club's inferior goal record drops them to fourth on the table.

Berekum Chelsea were unable to record a sixth win of the season as Nicholas Gyan's eighth goal of the campaign gave Ebusua Dwarfs a 1-0 home victory in Cape Coast.

It is now five successive draws for Liberty Professionals, who were held to a goalless stalemate by trouble-laden Great Olympics.

At the El-Wak Stadium in Accra, Prince Baffoe's goal on 41 minutes ensured a 1-0 triumph for Inter Allies against 2014-15 champions Ashanti Gold.

In Saturday's only game, Medeama were 2-0 victors over Bechem United, courtesy of goals from Paul Aidoo (pen) and Amos Korankye.
