I-League: Gokulam Kerala part ways with head coach Fernando Valera

Within months of taking charge at the club, Spanish coach Fernando Valera has decided to end his coaching stint at Gokulam Kerala...

Kozhikode-based I-League club Gokulam Kerala have decided to end its association with Spanish coach Fernando Valera, Goal can confirm.

Valera was appointed as the head coach of the club in March this year. He took over the reins from Bino George who was in turn promoted to a role of the technical director.

The coach asked to leave the club citing personal reasons. Club president VC Praveen told Goal, "Fernando Valera requested to be released (from his contract) due to personal reasons. A decision on his replacement will be taken in the coming days."

Technical director Bino George is the most likely candidate for the role, having managed the club to a seventh-place finish in their debut season in I-League.

Gokulam Kerala were knocked out of the AWES Cup in Goa earlier this month. They played preseason friendlies against ATK and Bengaluru FC. The Malabarians won 4-1 against the reserve side of ATK and lost 1-4 against the Blues.
