Allan Freese: AmaZulu appoint Highlands Park coach as Ayanda Dlamini's assistant

AmaZulu have officially announced Allan Freese as their new assistant coach with immediate effect.

The veteran coach had been on the books of Highlands Park both as head coach and assistant since 2015.

According to the club, Freese will take over from Moeneeb Josephs whose future at the club remains unclear after he previously expressed the desire to return to Johannesburg and look after his businesses.

Usuthu said Freese joins the club's technical team on a permanent basis without disclosing how long the former Platinum Stars coach is contracted for.

"AmaZulu FC are delighted to confirm the appointment of Allan Freese as assistant head coach for the club’s first team," reads part of the statement on the Usuthu website

"The former Highlands Park and Platinum Stars manager has joined Usuthu on a permanent basis."

"He’ll take over the reins from Moeneeb Josephs as second fiddle to, the newly appointed head coach, Ayanda Dlamini," added the statement.

While Freese can be considered one of the most underrated coaches in the PSL, he boasts vast experience after having been involved in football for years.

His first big break was in 2013 when he was handed the job as head coach of the now-defunct Platinum Stars.

Freese lifted two trophies with Dikwena before being snatched by Highlands Park two years later as head coach.

He was demoted to head the club's development but Owen Da Gama brought him back as his assistant to the first team.

The pair were instrumental in steering the Lions of the North back to top-flight football after winning automatic promotion two years ago.

Freese's departure from Highlands Park doesn't come as a major surprise because of the latest developments from the Tembisa-based outfit.

Highlands Park is in the process of selling their PSL status to TS Galaxy boss Tim Sukazi, and the deal is reportedly before the PSL board to ratify.

Da Gama is also expected to jump ship and seek new employment elsewhere as Dan Malesela is already tipped for a sensational return to TS Galaxy as soon as the deal is finalised.

Da Gama confirmed receiving offers from teams such as Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) for possibly taking over the coaching reigns next season.
