Former Chelsea star Moses scores fourth goal in a row for Spartak Moscow

Victor Moses continued his fine goalscoring run for Spartak Moscow with the opening goal in their 4-0 victory over Rubin Kazan on Wednesday.

The former Super Eagles midfielder made it four goals in four appearances for Rui Vitoria’s side since he completed a permanent switch from Chelsea.

Moses broke the deadlock at the Otkritie Arena with his strike from the penalty spot in the 10th minute.

The goal separated both teams in the first 45 minutes before strikes from Alexander Sobolev, Roman Zobnin and Georgi Dzhikiya sealed their emphatic victory.

The result was Spartak Moscow's second straight win in the Premier Cup - a pre-season tournament involving Russian Premier League clubs. Two days ago, Moses completed the rout as Vitoria's men cruised to a 4-0 win over FC Sochi.

Moses was in action for 64 minutes before he was replaced by Sweden forward Jordan Larsson.

With four goals in four pre-season matches, the 30-year-old’s form has sent a signal to Spartak Moscow’s rivals ahead of the commencement of the 2021-22 Premier League season.

The People’s Team will end the Premier Cup with a fixture against Brian Idowu’s Khimki on Sunday and they will open their league campaign against Rubin Kazan on July 24.

Last season, Moses provided two assists and scored four goals in the Russian top-flight before he was rewarded with a two-year contract on July 2 which brought an end to his nine-year spell at Chelsea.

For manager Rui Vitoria, his team is preparing well for the challenge ahead after scoring eight goals without conceding in their last two matches.

“It was a good victory. We played against an excellent opponent who knows how to act intelligently and in a variety of ways,” Vitoria told the club’s website.

“We had to show ourselves accordingly, and the guys followed the instructions - they played smartly, controlled the course of the match, even when they were defending themselves. And in the attack, they competently managed the ball, made a minimum of losses.

“At the end of the first half, there was not enough freshness, so not everything began to work out, but in the second half we renewed the squad, scored more. However, this is just a friendly match, so we are working.”
