Reigning FFA Cup champions Sydney FC have pulled past Rockdale City Suns 4-2 in their Round of 32 clash, but it wasn't all smooth sailing for Steve Corica's side.

The Sky Blues were given an early scare by their National Premier League opponents with Harris Gaitatzis curling in a fine dipping strike after just six minutes.

Sydney FC would soon find their feet however and twice went close through a dangerous Trent Buhagiar before Daniel De Silva scored an eye-catching volley in his debut for the club on 30 minutes.

After the break, the Sky Blues hit top gear adding three quick goals through Ben Warland and a lethal Alex Brosque double to all but wrap up the contest.

There would be some late consolation for Rockdale as Toufic Alameddine slotted past Andrew Redmayne and ensured a more respectable 4-2 scoreline.

Despite the win, of some concern for Corica will be the forced late substitution of Redmayne, who succumbed to injury.

On the bright side for the new Sydney FC coach will be promising performances from De Silva and Buhagiar, who were both lively and clearly settling in quickly.

Elsewhere, Adelaide United strolled past Central Coast Mariners in their all A-League clash with goals from Jordan Elsey, Mirko Boland and Craig Goodwin sealing a 3-0 win.

Heidelberg United meanwhile held off Charlestown Blues 2-1 and Cairns FC claimed a 4-0 win over Armadale SC.
