EXTRA TIME: John Obi Mikel gears up for 2018 World Cup and new league season

Tianjin Teda midfielder John Obi Mikel has started preparations for the 2018 Chinese Super League season and Nigeria’s campaign at the 2018 World Cup.

After helping the Tigers successfully in their relegation battle with 13 league appearances in his debut season, the midfield maestro is getting ready for the new Chinese top-flight campaign with work-out sessions with his teammates.

Later in this year, Mikel who doubles as the Super Eagles skipper will be aiming to lead the three-time African Cup of Nations champions to glory when the World Cup begin in Russia in June.

“Pre season with Tianjin TEDA. Hard work for the new season and an exciting year ahead,” Mikel wrote on Instagram.

Nigeria start their quest for World Cup glory against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium on June 16 before battling Iceland and Argentina on June 22 and June 26 respectively.
