The Bucs legend has backed the current generation to secure the club's second star ahead of their African adventure

Former Orlando Pirates captain Edward Motale believes that the team can lift three major trophies this season.

The Soweto giants are set to start their Caf Champions League campaign against Light Stars FC of Seychelles on Wednesday.

“Yeah, I think there will be too much excitement in the dressing room and in their camp because it has been a while since they last played in a Caf tournament,” Motale told Goal.

“Yes, the win over Kaizer Chiefs comes as a huge motivating factor, but the technical team must ensure that they remind the players that a new task and challenge lies ahead of them,” he added.

“I know they beat Chiefs twice and they might think they are on a roll, but they still have to work hard and win before celebrating,” warned the legend.

“I expect the same starting eleven because chopping and changing might hurt the club. Continuity is very important especially when you are targeting a win at home even though, this club (Light Stars) is not really known in the continent,” he responded.

Motale is the only Pirates skipper, who has lifted the Champions League trophy in the club's history and he has urged the current squad to remain determined throughout their continental journey to rewrite the club's history.

“Look, Pirates have always been there, they do well in the early stages of the competition and I was really disappointed to see them losing in the final in 2013,” he continued.

“I think they had a chance, but they just failed to give that extra push in the final hurdle. I think they have learned and will go all out now to reach the final with the same mentality and energy,” responded the Bafana legend.

Motale believes that Pirates can win the Premier Soccer League (PSL), Champions League and the Telkom Knockout Cup trophies this season.

“I am confident they can do well and possibly clinch a treble. They have the TKO final which they must fight to win, they are in Caf and they stand a good chance to win the league title, but they just have to remain level-headed and keep fighting,” urged 'Magents'.

Moreover, the retired defender reckons the 1995 African champions are lucky to have coach Milutin Sredojevic because of his experienced when it comes to continental football.

“Yes, it's a big advantage for the club to have Micho. Remember he led the club to the semi-finals in Africa when he left the club a few years ago,” continued the former defender.

“I don't think he is only experienced in Africa, but he has a great mindset and he is able to manage his players very well. He is a huge asset to the club,” he concluded.
