Derby County will face a different Hull City, vows Fikayo Tomori

Fikayo Tomori is confident that Derby County will face a different Hull City when they visit KCOM Stadium for Tuesday’s English Championship encounter.

The Tigers suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to the Rams in their last meeting in September under Leonid Slutsky and the Pride Park Stadium outfit have won their last four games which help them to climb to the third spot in the table.

Despite admitting the impressive form of the opponent, the Anglo-Nigerian is certain that the Rams will meet a much-improved side this time around.

“It is a results business and we need some,” Tomori told Hull Daily Mail.

“Derby are in form but after what happened last time we played them then we need to show we have grown. I believe we have. Derby will face a different Hull to the game down there.

“We have grown a lot and gelled. Games and training sessions have helped us do that. There has been a change of manager, too, so that means more ideas. We take confidence from that.”

Hull are in the 19th spot in the log with 22 points from 23 games, two places above the relegation zone and the defender agreed that they are far from being impressive.

“The season hasn’t been what we were expecting so far,” he added.

“We had a bad start and now we are trying to turn things around. The performance against Leeds is something that we can take confidence from and, hopefully, build on.

“We have to turn good performances into good points and wins. For a long time, we have been a bit unlucky. Maybe we make one mistake or the ball falls for the opposition. They score.

“Whereas we have to bang down the door to score. Hopefully, our luck will change. If we play like we did against Leeds, the results will change."

The Tigers lost to 1-0 to second-placed Cardiff City before losing to fifth-placed Leeds United with the same margin and Tomori is hopeful they can take positive from the duels

“We have been unfortunate to lose against two teams in the top six away from home. We have to take confidence from that. If you didn’t look at the table, you wouldn’t know if we were up there or Leeds. We can take confidence from that,” he continued.

“The dressing room was a bit down at the end. We had a lot of chances to win and we all knew we had played well.

“We controlled the whole game and that makes it disappointing to lose. We hit the post, their keeper touched it round the post. The ball just wouldn’t fall for us.

“It was upsetting but, in other ways, it is positive because we created chances. Hopefully, going forward we can score them. The good thing now is we have another game coming up so soon.”
