The 2018 edition of the regional tournament continued on Saturday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium where the stage was set for a spot in the semi-finals.
Chipolopolo were the first to open the action as they faced the Brave Warriors as their match got underway at 15:00.
Although, it was a highly anticipated encounter between two Southern African sides, it failed to live up to expectations as there were no goals after 90 minutes.
Following the dull goalless affair, a penalty shoot-out as needed to decide the winner who would progress to the cup semi-finals.
With Zambia not having coach Wedson Nyirenda manning the touchline after resigning just prior the start of the tournament, Beston Chambeshi was handed the reigns.
Chambeshi’s men converted four penalties to win 4-3 through Collins Sikombe, Jackson Chirwa, Toaster Nsabata as well as Clatous Chama’s well-taken spot kicks.
The win sees the 2012 African champions setting up a date against the winner of the tie between hosts, South Africa and Madagascar scheduled for Sunday afternoon - the first semi-final will be staged on Wednesday, June 06.
On the other hand, the defeat for the 2015 Cosafa champions demoted them to the Plate semi-finals and they will now face the loser of the match involving Bafana Bafana and Barea on Tuesday afternoon, June 05.
Moreover, Ricardo Mannetti’s troops netted their penalties courtesy of Emilio Martin, Itamunua Keimune as well as Denzil Hoaseb.
In the second match of the day, the Likoena of Lesotho tackled Isihlangu Semnikati from the Kingdom of Swaziland at 17:30.
It was end-to-end stuff in the opening half, yet both camps lacked composure in the final third as they were wasteful upfront.
The Swazis had an upper hand in the match, but there were no goals until the 70th minute when Lesotho's Sera Motebang calmly finished, beating Sandanezwe Mathabela.
The side form the Mountainous Kingdom would hold on to their slender lead and will now renew rivalries against the winner of the quarter-final contest between the Zebras of Botswana and the defending champions, Zimbabwe on Wednesday evening.
