The Mexico forward was injured playing for his national team earlier this month but hopes to play a big part for his club as Christmas approaches

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez hopes to take another step toward making his first West Ham start under David Moyes by returning to full training this week.

The Mexican forward suffered a hamstring injury during El Tri's 3-3 draw with Belgium earlier this month and has been held out of action since. While the 29-year-old doesn't want to rush his return, he's looking to get back on the field to help an ailing West Ham team.

"Hopefully close. Hopefully this week I can get involved with the team, we're going to see," he told the club's website. "With this type of injury you need to be very careful because it is a hamstring and sometimes the best thing is to [not rush] back, but thankfully I'm feeling very good, very fine, and we'll see if I can get involved with the team."

Moyes coached Chicharito during a tumultuous period at Manchester United, but both sides have indicated they're excited to turn the page. There isn't much of a choice with contests against Everton, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal up next for the Hammers.

The festive season is "the busiest part of this league, but hopefully for the Irons and for the Hammers fans it's going to be a great moment," Chicharito said.
