Dani Carvajal has overlooked Cristiano Ronaldo when choosing his greatest Real Madrid player of all time.

The defender appeared on 'the Locker Room' on Bein Sports USA, where the panelists picked their favourite ever Los Blancos player. Alfredo Di Stefano was one of the nominees, having helped Madrid dominate Spain and Europe in the 1950s.

Carvajal played alongside Ronaldo in the past decade, but despite the Portugal superstar breaking many club records and helping them to four Champions League titles, the full-back decided to choose a different recent Madrid hero as his best ever.

When questioned on his greatest player, the 26-year-old held up a sign showing Raul's name, claiming that he could relate better to the Spanish forward as he had come up through the club's academy, much like Carvajal.

"I identify a lot with him, as he is player from the academies and someone who won everything on the basis of his work and effort," Carvajal said.

"I don't think he was the fastest player, nor the one who controlled the ball best, nor the best at heading, but he did everything right.

"For the goals he has scored for Real Madrid, for me he is the most notable player of the club."

Raul is the highest Spanish goalscorer in European leagues, having netted 228 times for Real Madrid and then 28 more during his spell at Schalke. His Liga tally puts him at number five in the all-time list, behind Lionel Messi, Ronaldo, Telmo Zarra and Hugo Sanchez.

He also holds the record for most Madrid appearances, having played 741 times between 1994 and 2010, winning six league titles and three Champions Leagues in that period.

Carvajal played alongside Ronaldo from 2013 until 2018, when the five-time Ballon d'Or winner left Santiago Bernabeu for Juventus.
