Cape Town City sign Tashreeq Morris from Ajax Cape Town

Cape Town City have announced the signing of former South Africa junior international Tashreeq Morris from rivals Ajax Cape Town.

The Citizens have been hard at work bolstering their squad ahead of the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, which is set to get underway in August.

The club have already brought on board Abbubaker Mobara from Orlando Pirates, and after releasing the likes of Judas Moseamedi and Kwanda Mngonyama, the club have found another replacement with Morris joining Benni McCarthy’s side on a three-year deal.

The lanky forward is an astute acquisition by City, considering last season he bagged six goals in 19 league appearances in the National First Division (NFD), and was a valued member of the Urban Warriors side which narrowly missed out on the promotion playoff spot.

Nonetheless, Morris will look to give teammates Kermit Erasmus and Siphelele Mthembu adequate competition upfront.

The 25-year-old will also hope to rediscover his best form as he returns to the South African top-flight.

Morris had been a regular for Ajax where he spent nearly six seasons and even featured 27 times in the league for the club in a campaign which saw them relegated.

Meanwhile, City came close to plotting a PSL title charge last season but fell behind towards the end of the campaign as their lack of depth and inconsistency let them down.

With City slowly ridding themselves of the novice tag, and after adding further firepower with Morris’ signing to their ranks, they will perhaps be looking to do better than their fourth-place finish of last season.

Furthermore, rhe PSL recently confirmed that the Mother City-based club are set to take on Baroka in the opening match of the 2019/20 season on August 3.
