German outfit Mainz 05 have announced the acquisition of Ghanaian striker Issah Abass from Slovenian champions NK Olimpija.

The former Ghana U-17 attacker has signed a five-year deal, which keeps him at Opel Arena until 2023.

"FSV Mainz 05 have signed Issah Abass on Friday," the Bundesliga club announced via their official website.

"The 19-year-old offensive player, who will play for FSV with the shirt number 28, comes from NK Olimpija Ljubljana.

"Abass, who was offered a five-year contract which runs until 2023, is to train with his new team for the first time next Tuesday."

Abass played 53 competitive games and netted 17 times for Olimpija whom he joined from Ghanaian club Asokwa Deportivo in 2017.

His tally includes three goals in four appearances in the Europa League this season.

"It has always been my dream to play at a high level and I feel 100 per cent ready," Abass declared.

"I have always followed the Bundesliga and now I want to give my best to be on the pitch as fast as possible.

"When I heard about Mainz 05's offer, I did not have to think twice, and the talks with Sport Director Rouven Schroder and coach Sandro Schwarz also convinced me.

"I cannot wait to train with the team for the first time next week."

With his training schedule set to take off on Tuesday, Abass' first game could be against Augsburg after the international break.

"Abass is a highly gifted talent and an investment in our future," said, Schroder.

"We trust him with the next developmental step. We'll give him the necessary time. This is the right moment to get him.

"He can play all the attacking positions. He is incredibly dynamic, fast and robust, with strength on one-on-one situations."
