Matano will not sit on the bench when Ingwe takes on Sony Sugar in a Kenyan Premier League match on Saturday.
AFC Leopards official Oscar Igaida revealed that Matano has not been fired and will appear before a discplinary committee next Tuesday. “People are saying that Matano has been fired. He’s not. He’s been asked to step aside for Sony Sugar match,” Igaida told Goal.
"There were complains on how he handled the match against Fosa Juniors at home and away, and current performances of the team. There are many issues that I cannot reveal to you, but they can hurt the team in the long run."
Matano is expected to appear before AFC Leopards' management committee next Tuesday to ‘answer to a few questions’, according to Igaida.
Matano started the season on a low note, registering only one win in the last three games and the last nail in the coffin was a 2-1 defeat by Sofapaka last Wednesday.
AFC Leopards also bowed out of the Caf Confederation Cup following a poor display against Fosa Juniors of Madagascar in the preliminary round.
Assistant coach Dennis Kitambi will take over the team on an interim basis.
