Boateng's late penalty spares Sassuolo's blushes in Serie A

The Ghanaian's first goal for The Black and Greens saw the club pick a point in Sunday's league tie

A last-gasp penalty transformed by Kevin-Prince Boateng won a point for Sassuolo in Sunday's away clash with Cagliari in the Italian Serie A

It came in stoppage time to force a 2-2 draw in the matchday two fixture at Sardegna Arena.

The result has left Roberto De Zerbi's outfit fourth on the table, the position largely helped by their opening day win over Inter Milan. Cagliari sit 15th on the log. 

Leonardo Pavoletti opened the scoring for the home side in the 10th minute before Stefano Sensi set up Domenico Berardi for the equalizer eight minutes after half-time. 

Pavoletti was not done just yet as he struck again to restore Cagliari's lead in the 73rd minute on the assist of Filip Brasaric. 

The home side looked headed for a win until the ninth minute of stoppage when Boateng, who received a yellow card in the 73rd minute, stepped up to slot home the spot kick after a hand ball. 

It is the 31-year-old's first goal for The Black and Greens following a summer move from German side Eintracht Frankfurt

The former AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund star lasted for the entire duration of the game. 

Compatriot and club mate Alfred Duncan, likewise, had 90 minutes of game time.
