Bidvest Wits starlet Mahlambi off to Portugal for trials

Mahlambi will be undergoing trials in Portugal, having already made a name for himself in the PSL over the last two seasons

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that winger Phakamani Mahlambi will be leaving for Portugal this week to try his luck at an unnamed club.

“He’s going overseas this week... to Portugal. They’ll have a look at him there and let him train for about three weeks, which is good. It’s before the start of the season but hopefully, please God, he makes it,” Hunt told the media at the PSL awards on Monday.

The 19-year-old made an amazing return from a career-threatening injury in the middle of last season to help the Students claim their maiden Premiership title.

The injury saw him miss the start of the 2016/17 season as he was forced to spend nine months on the sidelines.

Recently, Bongani Zungu moved to Portugal where he is slowly becoming a household name in the Premeira Liga.
