11:00 BST 06/08/2018
Robert Lewandowski Bayern Munich top scorer award
Having claimed the top honours for the third time last term as a foreign player, Robert Lewandowski will have to slug it out with more talents again

More thrilling actions should be expected from the 2018/2019 Bundesliga campaign considering the fact that 988 goals were scored in 2017/2018 by some talented attackers of the different clubs. Though last term’s race for the top-scorer award was the first time in 10 seasons that 14 goals separated the winner from the first runner-up, this coming season which begins on August 24, 2018 will be more tensed and entertaining. Bet365 presents the outrights.

Main Contenders

Robert Lewandowski- Bayern Munich (1.57)

The 29-year-old finished as top scorer last season scoring 29 goals all the way. The Polish skipper, with that feat, set a record of being the first foreign player to have ever won the prestigious award on three occasions. And with a 14-goal margin between SC Freiburg’s Nils Petersen, the first runner-up and himself, he will be hoping to continue his blistering form this term.

Timo Werner- RB Leipzig (7.00)

Following the relegation of his boyhood club Stuttgart in May 2016, the Germany international opted for the newly-promoted outfit RB Leipzig the subsequent month. And he became the fourth top-scorer in the German top-flight as well as the highest German goalscorer in 2016/2017 season with 21 strikes. However, 2017/2018 was a disappointing year as he dropped to become finish joint sixth top-scorer in the league with just 13 goals. Are you brave enough to back him to claim the glory this time?

Kevin Volland- Bayer Leverkusen (21.00)

Upon the 26-year-old’s arrival in 2016/2017 for a record fee of €18m to Bayer Leverkusen, he struggled to score just six goals, making him a joint 31st top scorer in the top-tier. However, in 2017/2018 season, the German winger proved his worth by becoming a joint third top scorer with 14 goals. Thus, he will anticipate a better outing this term with Die Werkself to claim the award.

Mario Gomez- VfB Stuttgart (21.00)

Being the Bundesliga top scorer in 2011 with Bayern Munich, the 33-year-old striker will hope to be on top of his gear to go for the top honour once again. Prior to his return to Stuttgart in January, the former Fiorentina and Besiktas striker became the fifth top scorer in the top flight with Wolfsburg. Should he be on top of his game this season, he’d certainly go for gold.

Outsiders

Guido Burgstaller- Schalke (26.00)

On January 12, 2017, the Austrian international joined Schalke 04 for an undisclosed fee. He finished with 11 league goals last campaign, two strikes better than his tally in 2016/17. Domenico Tedesco’s side finished second last season and though it may seem impossible, it will be simply astonishing if Burgstaller can finish as the Bundesliga top scorer for the coming season.

Vedad Ibisevic- Hertha Berlin (34.00)

The Old Lady finished 10th in the top division last season and since the arrival of the former Stuttgart forward to the Olympiastadion, he has gone to score 28 goals for Pal Dardai’s charges. Even at that, only brave punters can stick their head out for the 33-year-old to claim the glory this season, after occupying the ninth spot in 2016/2017 top scorers chart.

Christian Pulisic- Borussia Dortmund (41.00)

With just four goals under his name last term in the German top-tier division, the United States international could break the jinx and come to limelight this season. Considering his style of play which makes him a subject of fouls by opponents, he should deliver for his boyhood club when the 2018/2019 season kicks off.
