The Porcupine Warriors had a late penalty to win the day but the visitors' coach says the referee was wrong

Bechem United assistant coach Seth Osei Wire has launched a scathing attack at referee Maxwell Hanson after his side's 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday, labeling the referee's decisions as "a joke".

The game was heading to a goalless draw after 83rd minute until Emmanuel Gyamfi was brought down in the box by Abdul Bashiru before defender Abeiku Ainooson sent goalkeeper Lawrence Osei to the wrong side to win the day for Kotoko.

"The referee was very poor yesterday and it was the main reason why we lost to Kotoko. I don't know how to rate his poor performance," Osei told Alpha Radio.

"It is a shame. The penalty that referee Hanson awarded Kotoko was a joke. How on earth can he make such a horrible decision? It is very bad and he should know that people are investing a lot into our football but some of referees have decided to get them frustrated. These bad decisions from referees do not help our league to improve and that is why we decided not to attend the post match conference. We were really angry and decided to leave right after the game.

"With this kind of performance from Kotoko, they will be losing lots of games away this season. They're not a good side and possess no threat this season. They struggled to create chances against us," he added.

Bechem will host regional rivals Berekum Chelsea on Sunday at the Fosu Gyeabour Park.
