The striker has mutually cut ties with the Miners after just a season, having arrived from Egypt

Former Ghana Premier League top-scorer Kofi Owusu has terminated his contract with Ashanti Gold by mutual consent despite having a year left, the two parties have confirmed.

The 26-year-old joined the Obuasi-based club after a failed stint in Egypt with Al Aswan in 2016, but once again, he could not find his footing in C.K Akunnor's set-up after scoring only two goals.

He is now free to complete a move to any club of his choice ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Although, Owusu scored on his full start as the Miners battled to avoid relegation last season, he failed to make a single appearance in the club's last eight games after falling down the pecking order behind Hans Kwofie and Daniel Gozar.

"I'm no more with Ashanti Gold and I believe things couldn't work out just as I anticipated," Owusu said.

"However, I'm grateful to everyone there and hope to conclude with my future on time before the new season kicks off. I'll surely come back stronger and continue to achieve greater things in my career," he added.

Aside Owusu, Goal understands that Ashanti Gold have also terminated the contracts of Afoakowa Jnr, Afoakowa Snr, Bright Donkor, Richard Gyamfi, Seth Afful, Samuel Yeboah, Paul Abeka Nkrumah and Fuseini Abideena.

Conney Idan, Samuel Frimpong Sarkodie, Emmanuel Osei Baffour, Nuhu Issaku, Eric Opoku and Hudu Yakubu have also failed to renew their contracts and Baffour is reported to have already begun negotiations with Elmina Sharks.
