Wayne Rooney's retirement from international football has prompted an outpouring of goodwill from those within the game.
Having made his debut against Australia in 2003, at the age of 17, Rooney went on to win 119 caps, the most of any outfield player in the nation's history, and became the country's all-time leading goalscorer with 53 goals.
Pundits and ex-players subsequently lined up to salute Rooney on social media as news of his retirement broke.
