Portuguese champions Porto end season unbeaten in the league

The Dragons have gone the entire campaign without suffering a single loss in the league

Portuguese champions Porto have rounded off their 25th league title triumph with a 2-0 away win against Maritimo, finishing the season without a single defeat.

The Dragons ended the 2010-11 Portuguese Liga campaign with 27 wins and three draws. The only previous side to go undefeated an entire season were Benfica in 1972-73 for whom Eusebio was in inspiration form.

"Today [Saturday] we achieved something that is very difficult, and which will remain in our memories forever,” Porto coach Andre Villas-Boas told SportTV. “We are very proud of our work.”

Porto had clinched the title in April and finished with a final haul of 84 points from 30 matches, 21 ahead of second-placed Benfica. Striker Hulk ended the season as the league’s top scorer with 23 goals with his team-mate Radamel Falcao bagging 16 goals.

Porto now have a chance to win the treble as they face fellow Portuguese side Braga in the Europa League final on May 18 and then take on Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Portuguese Cup final on May 22.
