Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny is the big surprise in the squad France boss Laurent Blanc has gathered to face Brazil on February 9, though former national team captain Patrice Evra has been overlooked.
There had been great speculation in the media as to whether the Manchester United left-back would be involved after leading the World Cup squad into a strike during the summer, and despite being named in the pre-selection pool, the 29-year-old has been somewhat surprisingly overlooked.
Equally, Jeremy Toulalan, who was a cohort of Evra’s in the South African unrest, has been ignored too, despite improved club form with Olympique Lyonnais.
On the other hand, Koscielny is the only new face in the squad, joining an otherwise fairly unremarkable selection of players named by Blanc.
The former Lorient centre-back has been involved regularly for the Gunners in the Premier League and this news will complete a fine week for the 25-year-old, who scored the winning goal on Tuesday against Everton.
