Reports in France stated on Tuesday that Morgan Amalfitano was Monaco’s chief transfer target, but the Lorient midfielder has now turned down a move to the principality, radio station RMC believes.
Out of contract in the summer, les Monegasques wanted to draw the 25-year-old to the Mediterranean coast this month in order to help pep up a disappointing campaign.
With several other sides circling, aware that terms can be discussed with Amalfitano immediately and a move completed for free in the summer, the highly-rated midfielder has elected to shy away from a switch to the relegation battlers.
Stronger clubs are currently in the market for the multi-purpose player, who has been talked about as a potential international thanks to his consistently good performances in Ligue 1. Saint-Etienne and Lille are lining up Amalfitano, but there is also interest from abroad, represented by Sampdoria and Espanyol.
