Michel Bastos: Olympique Lyonnais Must Be Ready For Nancy

Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Michel Bastos has declared that his side have to build on their 3-1 victory over Hapoel Tel Aviv in midweek by scoring a similar success away to Nancy at the weekend.

Bastos played a key role in les Gones’ Wednesday success but pulled up with a hamstring injury in the closing seconds of play after recording a brace. Nevertheless, he has stated that OL need to replicate their success in Israel.

“We need to turn our attentions to Nancy, where we don’t want to undo all the good work done here, otherwise we will end up in an identical situation to last Saturday after the Saint-Etienne game,” the attacking midfielder said, remembering the pressure that heaped down on the Rhone Valley club after their 1-0 loss to their nearest rivals, according to the LFP's official website.

The Brazilian scored one of the goals of the week with a cracking shot from just outside the box against the Red Demons, and he has spoken of the rocket, waving away claims that it took a touch from a defender on the way through.

“That was the best goal I have scored in my career because of the way I connected with the ball,” he smiled. “It definitely didn’t take a deflection. It’s a magnificent feeling to help my team like that.”

Despite his midweek hamstring issue, Bastos may be present in the OL squad to play at the Stade Marcel Pichot on Saturday evening.
