Stade Rennais’ regeneration of their first team has begun, with Moussa Sow departing for Lille while the arrivals of Georges Mandjeck, Onyecatchi Apam, Victor Hugo Montano and Johann Carrasso have been confirmed.
Sow’s contract was up at the end of June and he has elected to leave the club on a free transfer, having found the net only three times in 24 appearances last season. It was announced earlier in the year that he would be signing for les Dogues, and that move has been completed with no hitches.
“[I am] delighted by the many challenges that will mark the route from Lille in the coming seasons, starting next term in the Europa League,” Sow explained.
Meanwhile, Montpellier forward Montano, who was one of the stars for la Paillade as they spectacularly earned a Europa League berth during their first season back in Ligue 1, was one of four players to be officially unveiled by the club on Monday. The Colombian has been joined by former France Under-21 goalkeeper Carrasso, who was seriously injured last season and thereafter found his route to the first team blocked by Geoffrey Jourdren.
A fee of €7.5 million is expected to change hands for the joint transfer.
Centre-back Apam, meanwhile, has moved north from Nice for a fee of €4m, according to Nice-Matin, while holding midfielder Mandjeck has signed on from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart, who had twice loaned him to Kaiserslautern.
Rennes have typically finished in Ligue 1’s top seven over the last decade, but under Frederic Antonetti for the first time last term they ended the campaign a disappointing ninth.
