Roberto Mancini Insists His Manchester City Squad Are Ready To Challenge For The Premier League Title

Italian believes there is more to come from his side this season...
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini insists he has the squad to challenge for the Premier League title after seeing his side beat Blackpool 3-2 at Bloomfield Road.

Mancini watched his side make hard work of a win against an energetic Blackpool, but he insisted his squad has what it takes to compete with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

“We have the players to win and we will do what we can to improve," Mancini told Sky Sports.

“If we can reach our potential we have every chance."

On a weekend when rivals Manchester United dropped points again, City appear to be the strongest opposition in the race to challenge for Chelsea’s crown and Mancini believes they still have more room for improvement.

He added: “It was an important win today and today we were not at our best.

“Blackpool are a difficult side to face but we won but we still have to improve.”

City were on the back foot for long spells against Blackpool and it was not until Carlos Tevez scored, against the run of play, that Mancini's side started to show their own quality.

“We still need time to gel as a team,” Mancini added.

“It has been a difficult week because all the players did not come back to Carrington until Wednesday.

“That is not a lot of time to prepare for an important game.”
