Jerome Boateng Out Until Late September After Freak Injury

The German defender is expected to miss a month with a torn tendon in his knee.
New Manchester City signing Jerome Boateng has aggravated a knee injury after colliding with an airplane drinks trolley.

The 22-year old initially tore a tendon in his left knee during Germany's 2-2 draw against Denmark earlier in August. He went on to play for City in a friendly against Valencia, but noticed problems in his knee, and was granted time to let the injury heal. However, the freak airplane accident has set him back approximately a month in his recovery.

"I imagined my start at City to be quite different, of course," he told reporters.

Boateng will now miss several weeks with his injury. The Germany international has set his target on a return in late September.
