It was revealed last month that the
Premiership giants were to sign Dossena for £7m, however until now there had
been no official confirmation.
Dossena, who becomes Liverpool’s first-ever
Italian signing, had an excellent season for Udinese last term, playing 34
games, scoring two goals, and helping the club qualify for the UEFA Cup.
The 26-year-old, who has won one cap for Italy,
was also attracting the interest of Juventus, but the lure of Champions League
football was too much for the full back to refuse, and he has put pen to paper on a four year contract at Anfield.
"Liverpool are a great
team,” Dossena was quoted as saying a few weeks ago.
“I want to play Champions League football, the Reds have
already won it and they often get to the big games. In England, they are on the same level
as Manchester United."
Dossena will slot in at left back for Liverpool, and is a direct replacement for
John Arne Riise, who last month ended his seven year spell on Merseyside by
signing for Roma.
