Dortmund: No Manchester United bid for Gundogan

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has denied rumours that Manchester United have tied up a deal to sign midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Widespread reports on Friday night suggested Gundogan was set to seal a €30 million summer switch to Old Trafford as soon as this weekend.

The 24-year-old Germany international has one year left on his current deal at Signal Iduna Park, and while Watzke admits Dortmund would consider allowing him to leave, he insists there have been no talks with United.

"With Manchester United there is zero contact," he told Sky Deutschland on Saturday.

He added: "If Ilkay tells us he doesn’t want to extend, then we’ll sit down and discuss it. But that hasn’t happened yet.

“The media has to be careful. I’m not trying to be rude, but they can’t jump on everything they hear like they did yesterday.”

Gundogan was not named in the Dortmund squad for Saturday's 2-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt because of a throat infection.

Manchester United will be busy in the transfer market this summer as manager Louis van Gaal looks to build a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.

PSV winger Memphis Depay features high on their list of targets and Goal understands the club are confident of striking a deal despite rival interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
